What should I do during a fire?
If you hear the alarm go off because of a fire, this is what you should do:
- Exit the house quickly, DO NOT go back inside for important belongings
- If the smoke is thick, duck down to the ground and crawl out of the house
- Hold a shirt or a rag up to your face to avoid getting the smoke in your lungs
- If fire catches to your clothes, run outside, roll on the floor until the fire is completely put out
- Stand far away from the house so you are safe
- Call 9-1-1 for help, do not try to tackle the fire by yourself
- Warn any neighbors or people nearby so they are alert and can protect themselves and their families
