Causes
Floods can be caused by either manmade objects or natural things, such as:
New Development:
Construction can change the drainage system and increase the risk of a flood.
Levees/Dams:
Dams hold back large amounts of water, so if they break it would result in a flood that will greatly impact the land.
Heavy Rains:
During a large storm, heavy rains can cause floods.
Spring Thaw:
Frozen land keeps the snow from melting. The snow then compacts and contains gallons of water that can cause floods.
Tropical Storms/Hurricanes:
Wind, rain, and flying debris collects in one place and then turns into flooding.
