BACKGROUND on hurricanes
A hurricane is a type of tropical storm, or tropical cyclone, that forms over an ocean. They are almost always accompanied by thunderstorms and counterclockwise winds (northern hemisphere). Winds can get up to 160 miles per hour and the storm can drop 2.4 trillion gallons of water per day.

The steps that a storm follows to become a hurricane:
- A tropical disturbance in warm waters create a low pressure area.
- Energy from the warm seas, is fed to the low pressure systems.
- The system achieves more wind, and the storm is then called a tropical depression.
- When winds reach up to 39 miles per hour, then it is called a tropical storm.
- Finally, winds that reach over 74 miles per houris then called a HURRICANE.
-Hurricanes are deadly and can cause a lot of damage.
-Be careful for flooding and flying debris from high winds because they are destructive and can cause many problems.
-Heavy rain, floods, landslides, mudslides and flash flooding are likely to happen during a hurricane.
